Building a Better Community.
Food poverty is a deeply entrenched issue in the UK. Social inequalities in ethnically diverse areas run deep, negatively impacting the most vulnerable of people. The global COVID-19 pandemic has amplified these inequalities. In a survey conducted by One Vision, 56.65% of respondents stated that their food budget has been significantly reduced by the pandemic.
Financial pressures led to 43.38% skipping meals. 15% of those surveyed said that their children had to skip meals. 40.8% said that they had to choose between buying food and paying bills, while 20% had to use a food bank or a similar service.
One Vision’s Food Programme provides a lifeline for low-income families in Watford and the surrounding areas. Approximately 350 families used this service in 2020 alone.
Many families need temporary support because of circumstances that are beyond their immediate control. The most common reasons include illnesses, disabilities, a move into temporary accommodation and financial instability.
Thanks to your donations, Watford’s most vulnerable families and individuals have benefitted from:
100,000 meals *November 2020
20,000 grocery bags *November 2020
8000 bottles of water to all schools in the area.
